Special Announcement for 2023-2024 – Anuncio especial para el año escolar 2023-2024

The Dual Language Application for 2023-2024 for incoming kindergarten students is now closed. Applications must be turned in to LISD, online, in person or via mail by Friday, May 5, 2023, at 5 p.m. to be considered for the program. Applications received after May 5, 2023, may be placed on a waitlist.

La aplicación para el programa de Lenguaje Dual para el año escolar 2023-2024 para estudiantes que ingresan a Kindergarten ahora ha terminado. Las aplicaciones deben tramitarse ante LISD en línea, en persona o por correo antes del viernes 5 de mayo de 2023 a las 5 p.m. para ser considerado para el programa. Las aplicaciones que se reciban después del 5 de mayo de 2023 serán puestas en lista de espera.

Leander ISD has adopted the Dual Language Enrichment model for all bilingual classrooms. The goal of bilingual education under this model is to produce bilingual, bi-literate and bi-cultural individuals across all content areas by 5th grade.

The model places great emphasis on challenging all students, regardless of language background, with high expectations to learn subject matter.

Leander ISD ha adoptado el Modelo de Enriquecimiento de Lenguaje Dual para todas las clases bilingües. La meta de la educación bilingüe bajo este modelo es educar a personas bilingües, bi-alfabetizadas y bi-culturales en todas las áreas de contenido hasta 5° grado.

El modelo hace énfasis especial en desafiar a todos los estudiantes, sin importar su primer idioma, a alcanzar altas expectativas para aprender cada área de contenido.

Dual Language Services for 2023-2024 – Servicios del programa de Lenguaje Dual 2023-2024

PreK Dual Language Services offered at- Los servicios de Prekindergarten de lenguaje dual se ofrecen en:

• Faubion Elementary
• Knowles Elementary

Offered in Kindergarten through 5th Grade at – Los servicios se ofrecen desde Kínder hasta 5° grado en:

• Bagdad Elementary School
• Knowles Elementary School
• Reed Elementary School
• Whitestone Elementary School

Offered in 6th & 7th Grade at – Se ofrece en 6° y 7° grado en:

• Danielson Middle School
• Henry Middle School

English as a Second Language (ESL) is an intensive instructional program designed to develop proficiency in comprehension, listening, speaking, reading and writing of the English language.

Student eligibility for the program is determined through the administration of an English language proficiency test, and parent permission is required for entrance into the program. All instruction is provided in English and utilizes the TEKS and the ELPS for the cultivation of English language skills and the promotion of academic success in all grade level content areas.

El Programa de Inglés como Segundo Idioma (ESL) es un programa de instrucción intensiva diseñado para desarrollar el dominio en la comprensión, conversación, lectura y escritura del idioma inglés.

La elegibilidad del estudiante para este programa es determinada a través de la administración de pruebas de dominio del idioma inglés y se requiere autorización de los padres para el ingreso a este programa. Toda la instrucción es proporcionada en inglés y se utilizan los recursos estipulados en los TEKS y ELPs para cultivar las destrezas necesarias en el idioma inglés y fomentar el éxito académico en todas las áreas de contenido en cada nivel de grado.

COVID-19: Translation & Interpretation Services

Translation and Interpretation Services through the Global Languages and Cultures Department provides translation and interpretation services to support our students, families, and staff to improve communication and ensure access to the educational environment and opportunities via a culturally inclusive approach.

To support our schools and administrators, Translation and Interpretation Services has a streamlined system through Eduphoria that makes it easy to submit your requests and guarantees a prompt response and completion on deadlines. Each campus and department that identifies this need for parents and students, are encouraged to submit a request for this service.

• Written Translation/Interpretation Requests (ASL, Spanish and other Foreign languages)
• Bilingual Information Center for School and District Events
• Interpreters for meetings in different languages including ASL: VRI (Zoom, videoconference), in person.

Adult Education

Leander ISD partners with Community Action, Inc.’s (CAI) Adult Education Program to provide services to adults with limited mastery of basic educational skills; adults who do not have a secondary school diploma; or who are unable to speak, read or write the English language.
