The Leander ISD World Languages Department (LOTE) promotes the study of modern and ancient languages, fostering cultural understanding and effective communication in our multilingual world. Aligned with TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) and ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) standards, we provide students with the foundational skills necessary to thrive as global citizens today and in the future.
Why World Languages (LOTE) are Important
There is a positive correlation between the study of a language and higher SAT scores. College Entrance Examination Board reported that students who averaged four or more years of foreign language study scored higher on the verbal section of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) than those who had studied four or more years in any other subject area. In addition, the average mathematics score for individuals who had taken four or more years of foreign language study was identical to the average score of those who had studied four years of mathematics. These findings are consistent with College Board profiles for previous years. This holds true for the ACT also.
