HEROES Mentoring Program
The HEROES Mentoring Program is a one-on-one, school-based mentoring program that connects trained community volunteers with Leander ISD students who would benefit from an additional caring and supportive adult in their lives.
Mentors meet individually with their assigned student on campus during the school day, providing encouragement, consistency and positive connection throughout the school year. HEROES mentoring typically runs October through May.
Who Can Participate?
HEROES serves students of different ages, backgrounds, interests and needs. Students may benefit from mentoring in areas such as school engagement, confidence and self-esteem, character development, relationships with adults and peers, and decision-making.
Students may be recommended for HEROES by a teacher, counselor or parent/guardian, or they may express interest in having a mentor themselves. Parent/guardian permission is required for participation.
Become a HEROES Mentor
Community members, parents and local professionals can make a meaningful difference by becoming a HEROES mentor.
To get started:
- Complete or update your Leander ISD volunteer application and select HEROES Mentor as a volunteer function.
- Once approved as a district volunteer, you will receive information about completing the HEROES Mentor Interest Form and online training.
- Complete the required training and confidentiality agreement.
- Once all requirements are complete, you will be added to the list of approved HEROES mentors available for campus matching.
Interested in HEROES for Your Student?
If you believe your student could benefit from a HEROES mentor, complete the HEROES Parent/Guardian Permission Form and return it to your student’s campus counselor.

Once permission is received, the campus HEROES Mentor Coordinator will work to identify an appropriate mentor based on the student’s needs and available approved mentors.
