We know this transition brings a lot of questions — and a lot of emotions. Faubion Elementary is a deeply connected community, and we are committed to supporting families with clarity, flexibility and care as we move forward together.

To help, we’ve gathered answers to some of the most common questions we’re hearing from families about attendance zoning, transfers, transportation, staffing, the future of the building and how we are honoring Faubion’s legacy. This page will continue to be updated as new information becomes available.

School Enrollment Options for 2026-27

Where is my child zoned to attend next year?

Beginning in the 2026–27 school year, students previously zoned to Faubion Elementary have been rezoned to either Reed Elementary or Westside Elementary based on their home address.

The Leander ISD Board of Trustees approved this attendance zoning change in February as part of the district’s long-range planning process to support enrollment balance, feeder pattern alignment and long-term student success.

To confirm your students zoned campus for next year, use this School Locator tool and enter your address. Schools with the “Enroll” box indicate your zoned school.

Can I attend a school other than the one I’m zoned for?

Yes. Families of current Faubion students may request placement at either Reed Elementary or Westside Elementary through the district’s transfer process, regardless of their assigned zoning.

This flexibility was built into the transition process to help support families and student needs during Faubion’s final year and beyond.

The simplest way to submit a request is through Home Access Center (HAC) [step-by-step instructions]. For current Faubion families, there is no cost to submit this transfer request. However, please know that transportation is not provided for students on a transfer. The transfer window will remain open through the end of May.

Your Child’s Experience & Transition to a New School

Will Westside and Reed have enough classroom space and staff for incoming students?

Based on the latest enrollment projections for the 2026-27 school year, portable classrooms are not anticipated at Reed Elementary or Westside Elementary. At this time, all students are expected to be served in permanent classroom space. However, like any long-range enrollment planning, it’s difficult to fully eliminate the possibility of portables in the future if there are unexpected shifts in growth or enrollment patterns.

Staffing levels per grade level are being planned using district staffing ratios and projected enrollment, with final allocations adjusted to ensure balanced class sizes and appropriate support for students.

How is the district supporting students served through Special Programs during this transition?

District and campus teams are already meeting together and working directly with families to support students’ individual transition needs.

The district will host a dedicated listening session this spring for families served by Special Programs services to provide additional support and address specific concerns regarding the transition. Join us Monday, April 27, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Faubion Elementary Library.

What are the recommended walking, biking and transportation routes to Westside Elementary?

We have provided safe walking, biking and scooter routes from the Buttercup Creek neighborhood (Neighborhood Codes 2010 and 2000) to Westside ES. We recommend students use Buttercup Creek Blvd. to cross Lakeline Blvd. at the traffic signal, and then continue on Buttercup Creek Blvd. until it becomes Nelson Ranch Loop, which is the road Westside ES is located on.

Will there be a crossing guard provided on Lakeline or Cypress Creek Road?

Transportation has identified a safe walking path for this neighborhood coming out to Buttercup Creek Blvd. and crossing at Lakeline Blvd., which provides a traffic light, and we will provide a crossing guard for this location.

Placement Process for Faubion Staff

How were staff placed across the district? Why were they not all placed at Westside or Reed?

Faubion staff were invited to share their position and campus preferences as part of the placement process. The district’s Human Resources team worked closely with campus leaders across Leander ISD to match staff members with available roles based on their preferences, certification areas, experience and district staffing needs.

While some staff members were placed at Westside and Reed, others were placed at campuses across the district. The majority of staff members were placed in positions and campuses that aligned with one of the preferences they submitted. For those whose preferred options were not available, Human Resources and campus leaders worked closely with them to determine the best fit.

The Building & Future Plans

What will happen with the building after it closes?

Pre-design and planning work is underway for the repurposing of the building. Design and permitting will happen on an expedited timeline. This work will take several months. Construction is expected to begin in Spring 2027 and will be funded through the voter-approved 2023 Bond.

How will the facility be maintained prior to construction?

Routine maintenance and landscaping will continue as scheduled. LISD’s Custodial Services and Plant Services departments will perform normal operations.

What will the building be used for after Faubion closes?

New Hope High School is planned to relocate to this site, allowing the program to continue to grow. This popular alternative school offers an accelerated curriculum in a small-school environment with supportive teachers.

The district is exploring additional programming opportunities tied to long-range planning priorities that may be co-located with New Hope HS at this site. More details will be shared as design and planning continues.

Honoring the Faubion Legacy

What will happen to the school name – Ada Mae Faubion Elementary School?

The Leander ISD Board of Trustees voted March 12 to name the district’s first early childhood center the Ada Mae Faubion School for Early Childhood, carrying on the legacy of this lifelong educator whose influence has shaped generations of students and families in Leander and Cedar Park.

In a letter to the committee studying Faubion Elementary’s legacy, Faubion’s granddaughter Kara Fulkes shared how meaningful the decision would be to her family.

“We attended the 50th anniversary of Faubion Elementary in November and we felt that was potentially going to be our goodbye to her legacy in the district,” Fulkes said. “Of course, we held out hope something would come up to continue it, but for it to be something first of its kind, that’s absolutely beautiful!”

How will future senior walks and alumni traditions be honored?

Leander ISD elementary schools have a time-honored tradition of allowing graduating seniors to reconnect with the elementary campus where they began their education and inspire current elementary students who get to see a glimpse of their own futures.

For the 2025-26 school year, Faubion’s senior walk will take place at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 28. As we plan for future years, the district will work with former Faubion students to identify meaningful ways to celebrate.
