Rouse High School's Graphic Design & Multimedia teacher Laurel Taylor

Rouse High School's Graphic Design & Multimedia teacher Laurel Taylor was accepted to Leander ISD’s Teacher COOL Week summer 2019 program. Much like COOL Week for student's, teachers are placed with a local business for three days during the summer to observe and get inspiration for ways to bring their learning back to the classroom. Laurel was able to use a family friend to get placed at Austin’s Powerhouse Animation for her externship experience. Powerhouse Animation studio currently has about 80 employees and is quickly growing. They are best known for their adult Netflix original series Castlevania and most recently Seis Manos. After an incredible visit, Laurel knew that her students needed to see everything firsthand and meet the amazing crew at Powerhouse. Luckily, the studio was game. Mrs. Taylor’s Animation 2 class of eleven seniors visited in early November 2019. Where they were led through each department over the course of 90 minutes. They saw samples of previously-released production work and heard from artists about their day-to-day responsibilities. Students had the opportunity to talk to the artists individually and ask questions about everything from deadlines and equipment to advice for college. Mrs. Taylor and her class are so grateful to Powerhouse for taking time out of their busy day to give them a glimpse of life as part of an animation team. Look for Powerhouse’s upcoming series Gods & Heroes and Masters of the Universe: Revelation on Netflix in 2020.
