Our Leander ISD Board of Trustees serves countless hours to make public education meaningful for every child across our 200 miles, nine municipalities and 42 schools.

In January, schools throughout Texas celebrate our local leaders during School Board Recognition Month. Passionate parents, talented professionals and servant leaders make up the seven-member Board of Trustees in Leander ISD.

Preparing today’s students to be productive citizens and the leaders of tomorrow is a tremendous task. As elected officials, school board members are the voice of their communities, serving first and foremost in the best interest of our schoolchildren.

Trustees bear responsibility and oversight in Leander ISD for an annual operating budget of $326.3 million, supporting 39,010 students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. With 5,037 total employees, we are one of the largest employers in the area, an essential entity for our local labor market.

In the past year, our Board established district goals and superintendent performance goals for the district that focus on student academic growth and supporting the whole child. Trustees partnered with our community to create a bond package approved by 65 percent of voters in November 2017. We proudly opened the district’s newest school, Akin Elementary, under our Board’s leadership.

In the community, our trustees serve as tireless advocates for our students and schools, visiting with our state legislators to support a pro-public education agenda during the 85th legislative session. They also serve as liaisons to local government officials to lead in pursuing critical infrastructure projects for the benefit of our families and students, such as roads and walkways.

I want to sincerely thank Pamela Waggoner, Will Streit, Don Hisle, Grace Barber-Jordan, Aaron Johnson, Trish Bode and Jim MacKay for everything they do to support kids.

With strong leaders like these, Leander ISD will allow kids to soar as one community, with one purpose, for #1LISD.
