There is nothing quite like the feel of a high school stadium. So many memories are made there, both for participants and spectators, that experiences become part of the fabric of schools and their communities.

Leander ISD is committed to showcasing and supporting our talented students in their athletic and fine arts endeavors, and enhancing our stadium experience is a significant step in the right direction. We are blessed to have state and nationally ranked cheerleading squads, marching bands and JROTC programs, as well as drill, football, soccer and track teams. Across all six high schools and showcasing thousands of students throughout the year, I continue to be amazed at our students’ talents, accomplishments and skills.

To that end, LISD is excited to add sponsor-supported video scoreboards at our three regional venues, A.C. Bible, Gupton and Monroe stadiums this fall.

The district invested in these boards because the available funding exists for one-time, capital outlay dollars. Also, I would like to be clear that LISD did not use bond funding for these boards.

Video scoreboards will add to the “game-day experience” at these stadiums while also generating additional revenue for the district. LISD aims to sell $120,000 worth of ads per scoreboard each year and anticipates the boards will last as long as 15 years. The estimated annual revenue of $360,000 will allow us to pay off the capital costs in less than seven years, with future profits directly benefiting students.

Another substantial benefit is the educational component new scoreboards bring to our campuses. LISD will start with an enrichment program, partnering with student clubs and organizations to train technicians on our game broadcasts. Students interested in video production will team with the district employees, much like how we staff our Friday nights in the fall.

Finally, these new scoreboards allow LISD to expand its relationship with our community partners. School districts depend on these crucial relationships with businesses in the community. This new initiative is an opportunity, during our games, to have some of our most prominent partners advertise their product to a vocal and highly supportive audience.

LISD administration and the Board of Trustees carefully considered advertising and revenue projections before choosing to invest in these new sponsor-supported scoreboards. We are excited to showcase our students in a new venue as we guide all children to bright futures.
