A school district, like any large organization, thrives on diversity and a shared sense of purpose. We have a wide range of professions under the LISD umbrella, each one crucial to our students’ success. Our teachers are the most visible and impactful part of Leander ISD, and I have said before that our educators are second to none. However, you may be surprised to learn how varied and diverse the staff positions are in LISD.

Our wonderful LISD teachers make up 56 percent of our workforce, which is slightly above the state average for a public school district. Sometimes I hear that number used as a criticism, implying that the rest are administrators. Nothing could be further from the truth. In most districts, 5 to 7 percent of the overall staff is made of administrators. Here in LISD, our campus and central administration combined makes up approximately 5 percent of our overall payroll.

There are also many auxiliary staff positions that our district quite simply could not function without. Bus drivers, custodians and cafeteria workers are part of an auxiliary support staff that makes up 23 percent of our district. Another 10 percent are educational aides, who directly impact teachers in the classroom and help those individuals perform at a high level.

The remaining LISD staff is comprised of professional support positions. This includes counselors, librarians and diagnosticians who not only help teachers in the classroom, but also provide individual attention to our students in a way that helps personalize learning.

I am honored to lead more than 5,000 LISD staff members, including nearly 3,000 teachers. Every single colleague of mine is dedicated to the health, safety and well-being of your child, whether they work at your student’s campus or in some other capacity. Public education is a calling, so I hope you will join me in saying thank you to those who work for this wonderful district. Each, in their own way, is helping LISD rise to new heights every single year.
