Message from the Superintendent

Dear Leander ISD families,

We are greatly saddened by the events that took place today at Santa Fe High School. This senseless tragedy has profoundly affected our community, our state and our nation. We extend our deepest sympathies to the victims, their families and the greater Santa Fe community.

As superintendent of LISD, I go to work each day knowing our top priority is always the safety and security of our students, and we are committed to continuing every effort to ensure your child is safe while they are in our care. We will continue to explore, to collaborate with other school districts and to partner with law enforcement agencies to find new ways to improve safety and security.

This tragedy will understandably create some hard questions and ones that do not have easy answers. The LISD counseling services department includes school counselors, Licensed Professional Counselors and Social Workers who are able to meet the emotional needs of our children. Our district also employs licensed specialists in school psychology (LSSP) to work with students experiencing difficult times in their lives or emotional distress that may be caused by tragedies like this one. Please know these resources are always available to your student.

We encourage families and students to share any information about a threat of harm to self or others via our anonymous alert system or by notifying a school staff member, principal or counselor.

Please keep the Santa Fe community in your thoughts. There are a lot of people hurting right now from wounds that will never fully heal.

Sincerely,

Dan Troxell, Ph.D.
LISD Superintendent
