Smith Appointed Leander ISD Chief of Staff

Leander ISD Superintendent Dan Troxell announced that Matt Smith will serve as the district’s new Chief of Staff.

“I am pleased that Mr. Smith will share his knowledge and expertise in instructional leadership and collaborative improvement as the Chief of Staff for LISD,” Dr. Troxell said. “In his new role, Mr. Smith will provide guidance on systems, processes and metrics that support student learning.”

Smith began his career in LISD in 2015, serving as the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning before becoming the Chief Academic Officer. Smith joined LISD from Hillsboro School District in Hillsboro, Ore., where he served as Executive Director of Secondary Schools. Smith has also served as a high school principal in Hillsboro and Avondale, Ariz.

Smith earned a bachelor’s degree at Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk, Va., and a master’s degree from Arizona State University-West in Tempe, Ariz. He is currently enrolled in a doctoral program in school leadership through Concordia University in Chicago.
