Graduation season is underway, and last night Leander ISD celebrated its largest graduating class to date from New Hope High School.

This year, 123 seniors enrolled at the alternative high school of choice were eligible to participate in graduation exercises.

Giving the opening remarks was graduate Christian Maddux who reminded his fellow graduates of all the hard work it took to get to the finish line.

“Every one of us that stand before you, have each overcome adversity to get to today,” said Maddux. “This is both a celebration as it is a giving thanks to everyone who has contributed to getting each one of us to where we are. I hope that this graduating class will consider this success a first step in achieving greater success in the future.”

Among this group, 18 students received the Texas Scholars Medal, and two donned Riverbat purple cords from Austin Community College, in recognition of their completion of 12+ dual credit hours.

In 1997, the promise of an alternative route to high school graduation started with a single teacher. She was fully committed to helping students graduate. Today, LISD continues to provide an alternative way for students to complete their high school education through a self-paced, blended learning curriculum that is facilitated by highly-qualified teachers through one-to-one, small group, and individualized instruction.
