The Leander ISD Middle School Dance Team wrapped up an extremely successful year with the fourth annual district middle school dance showcase, IN Motion.  The dance teams packed the LISD South PAC and sold out both performances of IN Motion for the second year in a row.

This spring, all eight middle school teams participated in various competitions throughout central Texas.  In team competition, LISD middle school dance teams received 205 awards, plaques, and recognitions. The teams won 80 trophies this competition season, including Grand Champion Officer titles for RBMS, FPMS, CRMS, and CPMS, and Grand Champion Team titles for RBMS, CRMS, and CPMS.  Other outstanding achievements include 48 Division I team and officer routines, ten choreography awards, eight entertainment awards, three precision awards, two technique awards, two showmanship awards, and two sportsmanship awards.

The combined teams boasted more than 50 Division I soloists, twelve solo finalists, one 3rd place soloist, three 1st place soloists, two 2nd place duets, four 1st place duets, and five 1st place ensembles.   The CPMS Crimson Cadets had a team member recognized as a state finalist for PTA Reflections in Dance, and the HMS Black Diamonds Dance Team participated in the HMS Honors Band performance at the Texas Music Educators Association convention in San Antonio.  This historical performance was the first of its kind in the state of Texas, combining band, choir, and dance in a collaborative performance that exemplified how well LISD fine arts programs work together.

The Leander ISD Middle School Dance Team Program is comprised of eight dance teams with over 500 dancers in seventh and eighth grade.  The teams are all-inclusive, allowing for any dancer to participate as long as they are willing to learn the art of dance through dedication and teamwork.  In addition to dancing and entertaining, the LISD dance teams serve the greater Austin community by providing support and outreach whenever needed. In 2017-18, dancers contributed to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts, adopted local parks, visited nursing home residents, and provided recognition for staff members across the district.
