At the LISD Board meeting Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, students, staff and community members were recognized for a variety of accomplishments from academics, athletics and fine arts, to community service.

Director of College and Career Readiness Lisa Nucci introduced the high school deans of instruction for their work in helping LISD achieve the AP District Honor Roll for the third consecutive year.

Students from Cedar Park, Leander, Vandegrift and Vista Ridge high schools were recognized for earning recognition through the National Hispanic Recognition Program, based on their scores on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying test.

Students from Cedar Park, Leander, Rouse, Vandegrift and Vista Ridge high schools were recognized for being distinguished as Semifinalists in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program, based on their outstanding performances on the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying test. These students represent less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors.

Leander and Running Brushy middle schools and Glenn High School students were recognized for their success in the AP Spanish Language Program for native speakers. The AP Spanish Language Program is offered to 8th-grade students who demonstrate an aptitude in reading, writing and speaking Spanish. As a new school, 9th-and 10th-grade students at Glenn HS took the course. The courses are designed to be equivalent to entry-level college courses, and students have the opportunity to gain college credit for the courses.

The Cedar Park High School band was recognized for earning the state championship at the UIL marching band competition.

The Bond Advisory Committee members were recognized for their work studying demographic and budget reports, speaking with staff and parents, touring facilities and prioritizing items to be included in the bond proposition in support of growth, student safety and improvements.
