Meet the Child Nutrition Administrative Team

Meet the Child Nutrition Administrative Team
Photo of Steve SmithThe cafeteria staff is certainly the face of Child Nutrition and the key to our success! Everyone sees their smiling faces feeding the kids out in our schools every day. But there are several additional people who work behind the scenes that we wanted you to meet!

Photo of Steven Smith

Director, Steve Smith, has over 18 years of experience in Child Nutrition and says he’s loved every minute of it! When he’s not creating new and innovative ways to educate and nourish the students in LISD, you can find him on the campus of any recent birthday celebration, sneaking the last piece of cake.

Photo of Kristin Andrews

Kristin Andrews is our wonderful Registered Dietitian. She graduated from UT Austin and has been with CNS for 2.5 years. Kristin plans the menus, oversees all products served and sold in our schools, and plans our nutrition education events such as Eat the Alphabet and the Fruit and Veggie of the month. She has three children, two of which are in LISD schools and are both happy to give her first-hand feedback on the menus and recipes served in their schools. When asked what she likes to do in her free time she replied, “I have 3 daughters. I have no free time!”

Photo of Carolina Arizpe

Carolina Arizpe has been the CNS receptionist for over five years. Along with greeting our guests with a pleasant smile, Carolina processes free and reduced meal applications, keeps up with all our warehouse orders, and helps with processing weekly invoices. Stop by our office sometime and you might be lucky enough to hear her beautiful singing voice up at her desk!

Photo of Kim Frank

Kim Frank has been with Child Nutrition for over 15 years and all 6 of her children have attended Leander ISD schools. As the Technology Support Specialist, Kim oversees the meal accounting and point of sale system as well as the free and reduced meal program. In her free time, Kim can be found hiding in a corner with her computer creating magical new worlds and mysterious characters.

Photo of Jay Katz

Jay Katz has over 30 years of experience in Food Services. His career has taken him from coast-to-coast working in many cities across the country, learning with each mile traveled.  Jay recently moved to Austin to join SFE as a Supervisor.  He enjoys working closely with his teams, providing delicious healthy meals to the students of Leander ISD.

Photo of Kyla Maldonado

We’ve been blessed enough to have Kyla Maldonado for the past three years in the CNS office. She usually comes in August and stays for a few months to help answer questions and process free and reduced meal applications during peak season. Kyla and her husband are expecting their first baby next May!

Photo of Maria Manzo

Assistant General Manager, Maria Manzo, graduated from Texas A&M with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health & Physical Education & Community Health. With over 30 years in the food service industry, Maria brings a wealth of nutrition and healthy lifestyle education to our students. She believes in teaching children good eating habits that will last a lifetime.

Photo of Sarah Martin-Smith

Assistant General Manager Sarah Martin-Smith has been in food service for over 22 years, having worked in restaurants, senior living, and now K-12 schools. Sarah loves hiking local trails with her husband and dog, Daisy. She enjoys the mountains and desert and would love to retire in Santa Fe, New Mexico one day. We hope that’s not for a long time, though!

Photo of Robin Plett

After a career in private sector food service and catering, Assistant General Manager Robin Plett found K-12 Child Nutrition in 2009.  “This is the best job I’ve ever had!” she says. All three of her sons have attended Leander ISD schools.  Her youngest is currently a senior at Leander High School.

Photo of Michael Sawicki

Chef Michael Sawicki is new this year in Leander ISD, but not new to healthy cooking! He’s currently in his third year of K-12 food service after over 20 years in restaurants in Texas, Colorado, and Arizona. Michael graduated from McNeil High School, the University of Texas at Austin, and Texas Culinary Academy. He moved to Leander from Tucson, AZ this past summer and is glad to be back in Texas and part of Leander ISD!

Photo of Kathi VanDenBroeke

Kathi VanDenBroeke has served as CNS Administrative Assistant for 15 years and has 5 grandchildren in Leander ISD. Her duties include keeping our cafeterias staffed and overseeing payroll. When she’s not behind her desk, Kathi and her husband Ron are probably relaxing on the deck of their Tyler lake house where she hopes to one day retire.
