Parenting the Love and Logic Way®

Mary Ann Kluga, RN, MPS, LCDC, Leander ISD’s Alcohol Drug Awareness & Prevention Team (ADAPT) coordinator is offering the Parenting the Love and Logic Way® course on Tuesdays, Feb. 13, 20, 27 and March 6, 20, 27, 2018 at Reed Elementary School (1515 Little Elm Trail, Cedar Park) in the Community Room.

This six-week program is designed to help parents nurture responsible, respectful, fun-to-be around children who will learn how to make their own choices, own their problems, think critically and logically for themselves, while parents let empathy and consequences do the teaching.

The course is appropriate for parents with any aged child and any situation: home, school or even work. The instructional approach includes discussions, video clips presented by the Love and Logic Institute staff, workbook exercises, and homework to practice the "new" skills presented at each class. You do not need to have a child in Leander ISD to attend. Any one is welcome.

Cost: $35/individual; $55/couple (if sharing materials). Scholarships are available.

Child care will NOT be offered. Feel free to bring a snack or dinner.

The course goals are designed to help participants learn skills for:
  • Creating home environments that stimulate responsibility, resiliency and academic achievement.
  • Preventing misbehavior.
  • Avoiding power struggles while setting limits.
  • Teaching character and responsibility through modeling and the application of logical consequences instead of punishment.
  • Teaching children healthy problem-solving skills.
  • Staying calm in stressful parenting situations.
  • Helping children become prepared to resist drugs, alcohol, violence, and other dangerous behaviors.
