The Board of Trustees discussed future academic calendar parameters and approved the district’s hazardous routes report for the 2018–2019 school year at its April 5 meeting.

LISD works to get ahead on academic calendar adoptions


In an effort to speed the academic calendar approval process, the Board discussed parameters for the future development of academic calendars. Trustees considered relevant Texas Education Code and past LISD non-negotiables, as well as administrative recommendations from staff. The ultimate goal is to approve several calendars at once several years in advance.


Board approves hazardous routes for the 2018–19 school year


Each year, LISD Transportation staff analyzes and reviews the recommendations regarding transportation services for areas to be deemed as “hazardous” within the 2-mile radius of the schools. These recommendations are based on Board Policy using a rating instrument developed by a community advisory committee to study hazardous conditions.


The Board approved the above-defined hazardous routes and the discontinuance of bus service for 11 non-hazardous areas zoned to five LISD schools for the 2018-2019 school year. The schools with one or more discontinued bus routes are Cypress, Reed and Naumann elementaries, Running Brushy Middle School and Leander High School. An estimated 595 students will be affected by these changes, and their families will be notified by mail and/or email before the end of May.
