Teaching & Learning

Leander ISD Learning Model

The LISD Learning Model serves as a target that keeps us constantly focused on student learning. Our guiding documents give us core values, an empowering culture, a shared vision and clearly defined challenges and goals. The four components of the learning model, Curriculum Planning and Implementation, Research Based Instruction, Learning Environment and Assessment and Intervention serve as the framework for the development and delivery of curriculum in LISD. Every teacher is trained and supported in implementing these components that make up a classroom where students are challenged and enthusiastic about their learning.

The LISD Teaching & Learning Department is dedicated to supporting the LISD Learning Model by providing the instructional support, learning experiences and resources needed for high student achievement.

Curriculum Planning and Implementation

Teams of classroom teachers, district facilitators and curriculum coordinators have worked together to develop essential units of study and common assessments aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills to ensure a guaranteed and viable curriculum for all students.

Research-based Instruction

High-yield instructional strategies are a focal point in the delivery of curriculum with the goal of maximizing learner engagement and increasing higher-level thinking.

Learning Environment

Teachers create classrooms that encourage collaboration and taking risks, while challenging students to reach their potential. Students take responsibility for their learning and thrive in supportive learning environments.

Assessment and Intervention

District assessments are given to provide feedback to both students and teachers. Teachers analyze data to guide their instruction and provide interventions and challenges to meet student needs.

Instruction and Professional Learning

Professional development is the process by which LISD supports staff in building capacity and aligning district expectations with the knowledge, skills and strategies to maximize the potential of every student. Learning opportunities are provided throughout the school year supplemented by an intense summer training program.
