Leander ISD Superintendent Dan Troxell, Ph.D., has announced Terry Abbott as Chief Communications Officer.

“I am excited to be adding Terry to the LISD team,” Troxell said. “His vast experience and political background will be an asset to the district as we move forward in our growth. He is a proven communicator who will continue our great work.”

Abbott began his career as a reporter with a focus in politics in Alabama in the early 1980s. He moved on to serve as the press secretary for the Governor of Alabama. In 1996, Abbott joined Houston ISD as the press secretary, a post he held twice from 1996-2001 and from 2003-2008.

Abbott went on to work as the Chief of Staff for Secretary of Education Rod Paige in 2001 before moving to the U.S. Social Security Administration until 2003. Most recently, Abbott was the co-owner and chairman of Drive West Communications, a Houston-based public affairs firm serving public and private sector clients.

Abbott replaces Veronica V. Sopher, who was recently named Chief Communications Officer for Fort Bend ISD in the Houston/Sugar Land area.
