Leander ISD would like to congratulate Vandegrift High School’s Linnea Kennedy for being named the LISD Fine Arts Student of the Week.

Linnea, an alto in the nationally recognized VHS women’s and chamber choirs, has participated in choir for the last seven years. The senior competed in the Texas All-State Choir audition process the past four years and performed in the All-Region choir for the past three. Linnea has also taken part in Vandegrift’s annual Solo Contest and has received exemplary marks since her freshman year.

During her junior year, Linnea starred in the choral production of Shrek the Musical as Teen Fiona and the Sugar Plum Fairy. Throughout her high school career, she has performed solos at various events such as Broadway Night, Pop Unplugged and Spring Show. She is also serving as a choir officer and section leader for the duration of her senior year.

Academically, Linnea has maintained a nearly perfect GPA, has remained in the top 15% of her graduating class, and has kept her schedule full of AP and dual credit college courses.

Outside of school and choir, Linnea prides herself on her community service. She has volunteered in the worship band at her church and is president of the Teenage Advisory Board at the Bee Cave Public Library. Teenage Advisory Board is a committee of local teens who work together to promote teen involvement/interest at the library and in the community. TAB teens also participate in a number of service projects such as funding and creating a library for the Burke Center, a home for traumatized young boys, and creating “birthday boxes” for children in foster homes who may not be receiving any other gifts.

Linnea will be attending Baylor University for nursing in the fall and hopes to continue her musical career in the choral ensembles there.

“Linnea is not only an exemplary student and musician, she is a person of high character,” VHS Choir Director Michael Zook said. “I have never heard her say a negative word about anyone. She is uplifting and encouraging too all choir students.”

Leander ISD is honored to recognize VHS senior Linnea Kennedy as the LISD Fine Arts Student of the Week.
