Leander ISD Superintendent Bret Champion announced his selection of Keith Morgan as the principal of Naumann Elementary School and Mark Koller as the principal of Pleasant Hill Elementary.
“I am very pleased to welcome Keith and Mark as principals of these fantastic schools,” said Champion. “Both have proven to have a strong commitment to building relationships with students, parents and staff to support cultures of student learning. I am confident Keith and Mark will continue to work with teachers and staff to guide the students of Naumann and Pleasant Hill to even greater heights of achievement.”
Morgan has been a member of the LISD family since 2000 and taught mathematics at Cedar Park and Vista Ridge high schools. He also served as assistant principal at Cedar Park Middle School, Vista Ridge High School, and most recently at Naumann Elementary.
Morgan earned his bachelor’s degree at St. Edward’s University and his master’s degree from Texas State University. He is currently working to complete his doctoral degree at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Koller began his career in LISD in 2006 as a fourth-grade teacher at Plain Elementary. He served as an instructional technology facilitator at Steiner Ranch, River Place and Laura Welch Bush elementary schools. Koller has spent the last four years as assistant principal of Plain Elementary.
Koller earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas State University and a master’s degree from Lamar University.
Morgan follows Sande Powledge as principal of Naumann Elementary who announced her resignation earlier this month. Koller replaces Lana Collier as principal of Pleasant Hill Elementary who retired in June.

Leander ISD is eagerly preparing for the 2012-2013 school, and teachers and staff will be excited to greet students when they return on Monday, August 27.
Even on the first day back, teachers will be presenting meaningful material. Parents are reminded to use summer break to make family plans which will allow students to be present on all educational days for the next school year.

Parents of students who took a 9th grade STAAR/End-of-Course Exam (EOC) will receive their child’s Confidential Student Report (CSR) later this week.
On Tuesday, June 5, the district notified parents by phone if their child needs to retake an exam and provided information regarding their child's results, remediation courses and retesting dates.
Please remember that CSRs are only available to parents of students who took a 9th-grade level End-of-Course exam. The state will not create parent reports for students who took 3rd – 8th grade STAAR until January 2013.

Leander ISD Superintendent Bret Champion announced his selection of Christine Simpson as the principal of Leander Middle School.
“I am pleased to welcome Christine Simpson as the new principal of Leander Middle School,” said Champion. “Ms. Simpson has been a natural leader throughout her career in LISD and has proven to have a deep commitment to educating the whole child and supporting student achievement. I am confident she will lead LMS on a path of continued success.”
Simpson has been a member of the LISD family since 2000 and has taught language arts at Running Brushy and Henry middle schools and English at Leander High School, where she has served as assistant principal since 2009.
She earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Texas in San Antonio and her master’s degree from Texas State University.
Simpson takes over as principal of LMS following the resignation of Sandy Trujillo who accepted a position with Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District in the Houston area.
The STAAR/EOC district results were recently released, and we are very pleased with the overall percent of students who met the Level II Satisfactory performance standard. We realize there is still work to be done especially on moving more students to meet the Level III Advanced performance standard.
We are particularly proud of how our students performed in math, science and social studies especially in this first year of the STAAR/EOC era. While there is still room for growth in writing, our scores are 21 percentage points higher than the State on writing and we will continue to improve our processes to address this area.
Level II indicates passing, which is deemed Satisfactory. Level III is considered advanced, and the final column shows what percentage met the standard if the 2016 standards were applied to these scores. Note that STAAR/EOC standards will be raised and phased in through 2016.
LISD students, staff and parents worked hard to prepare for the STAAR/EOC, and their efforts are evident in the district results. Read more information on
