In Leander ISD, students and staff leverage information and technology resources to transform the way we learn, work, and improve. October is
National Cyber Security Awareness Month, and to make sure our students stay safe when they are online, parents may visit the
LISD Parent Technology Support Page and reinforce Internet safety practices at home.
In addition, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security provides parent resources to help teach children about Internet safety, including
Net Cetera: Chatting with Kids about Being Online and
Heads Up: Stop Think Connect. Tools are available to help parents talk with their child about
basic computer safety and
malware. Parents are advised to further protect their child by monitoring his or her
social networking sites and
mobile phone usage and talking to him or her about
texting, sexting and
cyberbullying.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security also offers
simple steps individuals and families can take to protect themselves against cyber threats: set strong passwords and don’t share them with anyone; keep your software safer by installing the latest updates; maintain open dialogue with your family and friends about internet safety; limit the amount of personal information you post online; and be skeptical about messages you read and receive online.
