Leander ISD Superintendent Bret Champion announced that 408 students earned 422 Advanced Placement Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the 2012 AP Exams. This is an increase from the previous year when 396 students earned 417 distinctions. The district reported that 2,003 students took 3,557 AP exams in 2012, up from the 1,911 students who took 3,547 tests in 2011.
“On behalf of LISD, we are very proud of these distinguished students for demonstrating academic excellence in the AP Program,” said LISD Superintendent Bret Champion.
Cedar Park High School had a total of 145 scholars honored through the AP Program.
· Seven students qualified for the National AP Scholar Award.
· Fifty-four students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award.
· Twenty-nine students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award.
· Fifty-five students earned the AP Scholar Award.
Leander High School had a total of 50 scholars honored through the AP Program.
· One student qualified for the National AP Scholar Award.
· Ten students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award.
· Two students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award.
· Thirty-seven students earned the AP Scholar Award.
Rouse High School had a total of 31 scholars honored through the AP Program.
· One student qualified for the National AP Scholar Award.
· Four students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award.
· Three students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award.
· Twenty-three students earned the AP Scholar Award.
Vandegrift High School had a total of 97 scholars honored through the AP Program.
· Twenty-four students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction
Award.
· Twenty-four students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award.
· Forty-nine students earned the AP Scholar Award.
Vista Ridge High School had a total of 99 scholars honored through the AP Program.
· Three students qualified for the National AP Scholar Award.
· Twenty-two students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction
Award.
· Twenty-four students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award.
· Fifty students earned the AP Scholar Award.
The National AP Scholar Award is bestowed to students who earn an average score of 4 or higher on a five-point scale on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams. The AP Scholar with Distinction Award is presented to students who earn an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. The AP Scholar with Honor Award is achieved by students who earn an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams and the AP Scholar Award is given to students who complete three or more AP Exams with scores of 3 or higher.
“College-level courses, including AP classes, prepare students for higher education and are beneficial for the college-bound student. As part of LISD’s shared vision to see that every student graduates with every option open, we encourage students to participate in rigorous courses,” said Champion. “LISD is pleased to report that a growing number of students are enrolling in AP courses, and that each year, more are scoring a 3, 4 or 5 on one or more of these challenging exams.”
