Student Support Services

Student Support Services is comprised of three main areas.

1. Student Management
2. Attendance/Dropout Prevention
3. Family Services

Student Support Services also includes the supervision and support of other areas: district-wide cheer program, Leander Extended Opportunity Center (LEO), and the Title IX Coordinator.

Student Management
Student Discipline
  • Update and maintain the district’s Student and Parent Handbook
  • Management of contraband canines
  • Expulsion hearings (to LEO and JJAEP)
  • Student sexual harassment
  • Student searches
  • Placement of students to LEO
  • Legal interpretation of areas in regard to student discipline
  • Processing police reports
  • Interpretation of the Student Code of Conduct (includes Dress Code)
  • Bullying
  • Dating Violence
  • Liaison between the LISD and the JJAEP

Parent Related Issues 
  • Parent concerns, complaints, and appeals
  • Custody situations that might be impacting the school
  • Advice to parents on student legal issues

Assistant Principals
  • Provide training and advice for school administrators
  • Facilitate monthly meetings
  • Advise assistant principals on student management related issues
  • Provide guidance in sexual harassment cases

School Resource Officers (SRO)
  • Provide training for the SROs
  • Liaison between the police departments (Cedar Park, Leander, and Travis County) and the district
  • Organize and facilitate the SRO program

FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act)
Attendance/Dropout Prevention
  • Working with parents and students in the attendance process
  • Holding pre-court hearings
  • Working proactively with students in an effort to keep them in school
  • Processing students and/or parents in the court system for attendance violations
  • Training and guidance for registrars, attendance clerks, assistant principals, counselors, and nurses regarding the attendance process
  • Serving as the community liaison for attendance and dropout issues

Family Services
  • Short-term individual counseling with students and/or guardian(s)
  • Case management
  • Assessments and referrals to community agencies for mental health issues
  • Referrals for basic needs assistance  
  • Parenting support                            
  • Community outreach
  • Support and consultation with LISD personnel
  • Inter-agency collaboration and coordination
  • Crisis intervention

Other Areas of Support
Title IX Coordinator:
  • Manage and maintain all student sexual harassment records
  • Support principals and assistant principals in the investigation of student sexual harassment cases

LEO Supervisor:
  • Support LEO staff in the education of students
  • Disaggregate data to ensure consistency across the district with placements at LEO
  • Serve in an advisory role in working with the LEO staff

District-wide Cheer Program:
  • Organized and facilitated the structuring of the district-wide cheer programs
  • Support of the middle and high school cheerleader coaches
  • Plan and facilitate regularly scheduled workshops with the cheerleader coaches
  • Parent concerns, complaints, and appeals
  • Maintain the district-wide cheerleader handbooks
  • Facilitate and supervise the high school cheerleader tryouts
