Welcome to PreK in Leander ISD!

Leander ISD offers free, half-day prekindergarten to eligible children at six elementary school locations.

Prekindergarten Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for enrollment in a prekindergarten class, a child must be 4 years of age on or before September 1 of the current school year and be:

  • unable to speak and comprehend the English language; or
  • eligible to participate in the national free / reduced meal program based on family income; or
  • homeless, as defined by 42 U.S.C. Section 1143a, regardless of the residence of the child, of either parent of the child, or of the child's guardian or other person having lawful control of the child; or
  • the child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty by proper authority; or
  • the child of a member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who was injured or killed while serving on active duty; or
  • has ever been in the conservatorship of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services following an adversary hearing held as provided by Section 262.201, Family Code; or
  • the child of a person eligible for the Star of Texas Award under Section 3106.002, Section 3106.003, or Section 3106.004, Government Code.

Transportation is provided for students in LISD's half-day PreK program.

PreK registration for the 2018-2019 school year opens April 18 & 19 from 7:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. (More information). PreK registration for the 2018-2019 school year during the summer will be held July 11 & 12 at Faubion Elementary from 9 a.m - 7 p.m. You may register any PreK student who lives in any part of Leander ISD during these two days. You can also register online anytime!

Enrollment:

  1. Read the eligibility requirements above to determine if your child qualifies for PreK.
  2. Complete the online enrollment form through txConnect or visit any elementary school for more information.
  3. Find the elementary school nearest to you using Infofinder.
  4. Bring the required eligibility documents to your nearest elementary school to determine qualification for PreK.
