Leander ISD's walk-to-stop policy has set up bus stops so that elementary students have to walk a maximum of two long blocks (or two-tenths a mile) to their stop, while secondary students are required to walk a maximum of five-tenths a mile (or five long blocks) to their bus stop.
If you consider that we do not transport students living inside a two-mile radius of our schools, you see that this walk-to-stop policy is only asking that elementary students walk one-tenth as far to bus stops, as we ask many LISD students to walk back and forth to school each day.
The result is fewer buses returning to campuses at less than capacity due to time constraints - and this saves important taxpayer dollars. (Please note that bus routes for special needs students will operate as they have in past years.)
